The Bangalore Metro Transport Corporation (BMTC) will install 100 buses with bicycle racks. These racks will have the capability of holding two cycles each.
This is an attempt to help cycle commuters to use their bicycle for end to end connectivity while using public transport.
It will also help you catch a bus home, if you get a mechanical while out on your long rides. Provided you are willing to wait for a bus with a rack!
Currently only buses plying on the Outer Ring Road will be equipped with these racks.
The image shared of the BMTC bus bicycle rack is a basic design, which has been fabricated in-house.
Will commuters avail of this new feature by BMTC? Does it bring into glaring focus, the need of allowing metro services to allow bicycles?
This initiative by BMTC is because of the reduced passengers during the pandemic and the increase in cycling amongst the city’s inhabitants.

The utility plans to provide such facility in many buses that ply on the Outer Ring Road which will soon have dedicated bicycle lanes. pic.twitter.com/y40bAYN0PV
