Hi All
I have had a trance pro for the past 5 years. It was stolen unfortunately. I am looking at the following 2 options in the same price range. Montra Trance pro and the Fantom runner. On paper – the Fantom is streets ahead. Shimano Altis vs Tourney & much lighter. Does anyone have any ownership experience on how reliable is it? I am planning to use it for commuting in mostly good roads, but small areas of rough road.

Does anyone have any ownership experience on how reliable is it?For your use case, I’d lean more on frame fit, local service support and wheel quality than just the derailleur name. Altus over Tourney is nice, and lower weight is always welcome on a commute, but it won’t matter much if the bike feels wrong or spares/support are a pain. Since you already lived with a Trance Pro for 5 years, that’s a known quantity, boring but dependable is not a bad thing for commuting. If the Fantom has decent dealer backup near you and the test ride feels solid, no rattles, clean shifting, good braking, I’d seriously consider it. Do check tyres, hubs, rims and warranty too, those are where budget bikes often hide the “surprises”.
