Bosch eBike Systems has unveiled a groundbreaking new portfolio designed specifically for the urban commuter. Anchored by the company’s first-ever rear Bosch hub motor. Historically recognized for its powerful mid-drive systems, Bosch’s pivot to a hub-drive layout signals a direct challenge to competitors in the rapidly growing lightweight, minimalist city bike segment.

The Hub Line: A Shift in Strategy

At the core of the announcement is the Hub Line, a lightweight rear-hub motor designed to blend seamlessly into urban bicycle frames. Weighing just 5.1 lbs and measuring 3.9 inches in diameter, the black aluminum motor delivers 45 Nm of torque. The system is engineered to provide immediate, sensitive assistance during city maneuvers—such as accelerating from traffic lights or tackling moderate inclines—before completely decoupling above 25 km/h (15.5 mph) to allow resistance-free pedaling.

The motor integrates directly into Bosch’s smart system ecosystem. It connects via Bluetooth to the eBike Flow app for navigation, over-the-air updates, and digital security. For riders seeking a smoother experience, the Hub Line can be paired with Bosch’s eShift electronic gear shifting.

      Slim Components for Minimalist Integration

To complement the discrete motor, Bosch introduced its slimmest battery to date: the PowerTube 360.

      • Dimensions & Weight: 2.7 inches in diameter; 4.6 lbs.

      • Capacity & Range: 360 Wh, delivering an estimated range of over 50 miles on a single charge.

      • Flexibility: Can be paired with the PowerMore 250 Range Extender for longer distances; available in removable or permanently integrated configurations depending on the bike manufacturer’s design.

On the handlebars, the user interface receives a stark, minimalist overhaul. The new LED Controller replaces the older LED Remote, shrinking the physical footprint by roughly 65%. It features five ergonomically positioned buttons with tactile and audible feedback. An ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts LED brightness. A USB-C port offering up to 10 watts of charging power for smartphones. For riders requiring more data, the new Intuvia 200 offers a crisp, 2.4-inch grayscale display designed for high legibility in all weather conditions.

      Upgraded Digital Security

Recognizing the high risk of urban bicycle theft, Bosch also debuted the next generation of its ConnectModule. Hidden within the bike, the hardware combines GPS, cellular connectivity, and motion sensors to power the “eBike Alarm” feature.

Key Innovation: The updated module now integrates Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology. This allows owners to track stolen or misplaced bikes down to a few yards, even in areas where traditional GPS signals fail, such as underground basements, parking garages, or dense inner-city courtyards.

The new module features a flexible mounting system, making it easier for shops to retrofit onto compatible eBikes. These advanced tracking features are tied to Bosch’s Flow+ paid subscription tier.

With this coordinated rollout of motors, batteries, and digital security, Bosch is positioning itself to dictate the aesthetic and functional standards of the next generation of urban electric mobility.
